5a Group #3

2. Summarize the reading in one brief paragraph; be specific in your summary. Remember that your classmates will rely on you for this information. 2 percent
This story talks about how Sacramento is very different from the rest of California. The citizens are very welcoming and there is a very thin line between the rich and the poor. The author talks about how Sacramento seems to be like the midwest due to the lay-out, the people and the sheer atmosphere.

3. Which was your favorite sentence or paragraph (include entire quote; use quote marks and page number)? 1 percent
"Lacking hills on which the wealthy can perch on and look down on the rest of town, Sacramento has neighborhoods where the well-to-do live in close proximity to the up-and-coming" pg. 177

4. What did the reading make you think of? (be specific eg "There is a bridge in SF that spans 4 miles from SF to Oakland and in the middle of the bridge it crosses an island called Treasure Island. This story makes me think of that specific little island where I can see the entire city and bay area. That city was also in the news recently where .... ) .75 percent
The reading made me think of my visit to Sacramento a few years ago. The town layout was very charming and had many interesting stores to visit however all the people that gave off any sense of interest towards me were either asking for money or food. My experiance seems to be a bit different from the authors, however they do live there so that might make a difference.

5. What is one thing you did not know before you started the reading that you now know (again, be specific using concrete examples)? 1 percent
I did not know that the political figures of Sacramento would go out on the town and just hang out like any other individual rather than boasting their wealth.

This story talks about the authors relationship to the desert. She sees it as her resting place, a location where she can relax and not think about her daily life in L.A. She likes to go there to explore and listen for awhile to learn about the deserts secrets.

I personally really love the desert as well. Every year I go to Arizona. It's like a resting place for me. Everything around me seems so natural and untouched. I always feel very much at peace when I'm out in the desert in Arizona

I did not know much about any of the sports figures she was talking about.

This story is about a man trying to find the center of the country. He breifly talks about a man who found the center of L.A., the authors place of residence then goes into describing his own conquest to locate a center. When he finds it however it is not exactly what he expected.

I have gone on many little adventures with my own friends trying prove or find something that some people might never think of. Though we have never really found what we had set out for we do sometimes come upon something a lot better than what we were looking for.

I did not know that the center of L.A. was in a tiny hill range.

This story is about the author and the author form the previous stories adventure to the center of California. The author of this sotry goes into detail how she only likes to travel when she knows everything will go well and be fine in the end. However when she reaches her destination she is overtaken will awe by the location and the beauty of it.

"We left Malibu in a brand-new rental car, which is my call because the charms of David's cherished red pickup, while fine for hauling the dog or a load of firewood, exist mostly in his own mind." pg. 193

The quietness that the author describes reminds me of when I went on a hike in Hawaii. When we had hiked to the top of the hill the landscape was breath taking and the sheer silence of the area was beautiful.

I did not know about the some of the towns the author talked about in her story.
