1. Who is your classmate, what is the component category, what is the name of the choice?
Debbie Lee, component 4a My California authors Hector Tobar, Thomas Steinbeck, Edward Humes, and Matt Warshaw
2. What is something this classmate said about the choice that relates to any of the assignments in projects 2-3?
This student talks about all different types of cultures such as the surfing culture of Santa Cruz. She also talks about seal beach which was a place that I had done one of my earlier projects on.
3. What is something different this classmate said about their choice that you did not realize before when you completed projects 2-3?
Debie talked about how Seal Beach is a different place than it used to be. I have never known it as anything other than the way it is so it was interesting to find out that it used to be different.
4. How would you relate this to Freire's ideas regarding dialogue? For example, you went in thinking one idea, your classmate had a different idea. What new idea emerged from this process?
Debbie helped me to gain knowledge that I did not have prior to this assignment. Once again I feel this project helped along the lines of student-student teaching and showed how everyone can learn from each other.
5. How has project 2-3 helped you with the readings of the textbook?
It has made the process much easier and given me the chance to read everything without having to actually sit down and read it all myself.

5b Reflection
1. Who is your classmate, what is the component category, what is the name of the choice?
I chose Chris Allen from group 1 and his post for assignment 4a. Group 1 was assigned readings from: Percival Everett, Ruben Martinez, Patt Morrison, and Carolyn See
2. What is something this classmate said about the choice that relates to any of the assignments in projects 2-3?
What this student said reminded me of our discusions on culture and diversity. Some of the stories he reflected on were based on experiances held by people of different race and religion.
3. What is something different this classmate said about their choice that you did not realize before when you completed projects 2-3?
In one of his reflections he talked about how regions of California are very close yet very different socially and culturally. I personally have never really thought about it but now that I do I totally agree.
4. How would you relate this to Freire's ideas regarding dialogue? For example, you went in thinking one idea, your classmate had a different idea. What new idea emerged from this process?
Chris helped me to learn a few new things showing me that students can teach students. Freire focussed on everyone learning from each other and I think this is a great example of that.
5. How has project 2-3 helped you with the readings of the textbook?
It has condensed all of the information and helped me to pick up on some of the reading I didn't have a chance to do in a shorter time span.

Assignment 4c
1. Who is your classmate, what is the component category, what is the name of the choice?
Sheena Dudley, component b Beaches, Bodega Bay
2. What is something similar this classmate said about the choice?
Sheena and I both focussed on how Bodega Bay is thought to be a more family oriented beach. We also agreed on how Bodega Bay is always cold.
3. What is something different this classmate said about the choice?
Something different that Sheena and I focussed on was how Bodega Bay can be rather crowded at times. Though I personally have never been to any of the beaches in Bodega Bay and experianced it to be overcrowded I am sure there have been days when there have been many people.
4. How would you relate this to Freire's ideas regarding dialogue? For example, you went in thinking one idea, your classmate had a different idea. What new idea emerged from this process?
I would relate all of this to Freire's ideas regarding dialogue because I learned things from Sheena's post that I did not learn when I had done my post innitially. Through student-student interaction I was able to further educate myself and be educated.

Assignment 4b
1. Who is your classmate, what is the component category, what is the name of the choice?
Classmate Yesenia Chavez, component a World Cities, Oakland
2. What is something similar this classmate said about the choice?
Yesenia and I both thought that many would assume Oakland was a dangerous and volatile city. We also focussed on how the city was very culturaly diverse. The fact that Oakland is protrayed in a very negative light was something I found that we agreed upon as well.
3. What is something different this classmate said about the choice?
Yesenia and I didn't have much of a differing opinion. She did state information about the community events hosted in Oakland which I did not touch on. Other than that our ideas were relatively the same on the city.
4. How would you relate this to Freire's ideas regarding dialogue? For example, you went in thinking one idea, your classmate had a different idea. What new idea emerged from this process?
I learned to look at the positive energy that Oakland could give off. While I seemed to focus more on the stereotypes the city had to offer Yesenia actually gave examples of good things going on in the community. I learned that it is good to search for the positive and by doing so I can learn much easier. By doing this I can practice Freire's concept of teacher/student learning.

Though I have been many beautiful places like the author has, I feel that living in the sonoma county area makes me happiest because of my memories here and everything that comes with the town itself. I love the atmosphere and the people that reside here and I wouldn't have it any other way.
5. What is one thing you did not know before you started the reading that you now know (again, be specific using concrete examples)? 1 percent
I never knew that Berkeley was such a big town. I have passed by the college before but never really given the rest of the town a second thought.

This reading is about the authors experiance in a biker bar, which also happened to be her first gig playing music with her band. She also talks about other experiances playing in bars and clubs. She describes how she would try to dress to impress as well as try and sing the right songs, but sometimes she wasn't prepared.

This reading made me think of the first time I went into a biker bar. My dad is a Harley rider and has a little group like the group in the story so I went to a bar for his birthday. It was very loud and although I wasn't picked up by a large biker I did get the chance to talk and get a first hand view of the biker scene.
5. What is one thing you did not know before you started the reading that you now know (again, be specific using concrete examples)? 1 percent
I did not know that people worried so much about how many rhinestones they had on their clothes? Other than that most everything else seemed pretty familiar to me.

1. Contains an explanation regarding how this component (any aspect of it; eg content of videos, content of websites) connects to your study of humanities. .25 point
By taking a closer look at two of Californias inland areas I am able to look at certain cultures and aspects of California that may not be as well known or popular as the coastal areas. This particular study connects to our study of humanities because it focuses on a different side of California apart from its beaches that has inspired many artists and people in general to flock to our beautiful state.
2. Contains the following elements that will be used in upcoming projects for analytical purposes:
a. What are some assumptions/stereotypes you think people have of each location: 1 point
I believe that when people think of Santa Rosa they think of the vineyards and winerys. They may tend to confuse Santa Rosa with surronding towns such as healdsburg and Rohnert Park, possibly combining the areas into one location. As for McCloud, people may seem to think that it has nothing to offer other than outdoor sports. They may also find McCloud to be like a small town setting that is very open.
b. List 3 things that make each location similar: 1 point
1. They both are close to many outdoor activities.
2. They both attract many visitors.
3. McCloud and Santa Rosa are both in well known areas but are not the most well known towns in either.
c. List 3 things that make each location so different: 1 point
1. McCloud is a small town and Santa Rosa is a little larger.
2. McCloud is surronded by lakes and mountains.
3. Santa Rosa is closer to the ocean.
d. Questioning: What else would you like to know about these places? When completing the question section, lead your audience into the question by stating a fact you do know, yet you still have the related question. This way, both your audience and you will have an educational experience. .5 point
I know that Santa Rosa has attracted a few famous residents, but has McCloud ever been home to anyone that is famous?
3. Using your classmates work from last week, tell us one thing you learned from 1 student. Is this one thing some common experience you share or some experience that is completely different than what you experienced? Is this one thing related to our class theoretical foundation and if so, how? Is that one thing related to historical or cultural context of this country or a different one? Link that persons blog to this entry (eg cut paste that blog entry here) . .5 point
I chose to look at Alissa Sillars blog on beaches. I learned that Bolinas beach has the stereotype that it is not a very welcoming town. I have heard this rumor before and have even had people who once lived there confirm that the rumor is close to true. It is very interesting to me that there would be a town that would try to keep people from visiting it. In our culture today I feel people should be more welcoming and accepting. By keeping people out it may keep an ideal but it also feeds the fire of feeling different.
