Assignment 5c

1. Who is your classmate, what is the component category, what is the name of the choice?

Debbie Lee, component 4a My California authors Hector Tobar, Thomas Steinbeck, Edward Humes, and Matt Warshaw

2. What is something this classmate said about the choice that relates to any of the assignments in projects 2-3?

This student talks about all different types of cultures such as the surfing culture of Santa Cruz. She also talks about seal beach which was a place that I had done one of my earlier projects on.

3. What is something different this classmate said about their choice that you did not realize before when you completed projects 2-3?

Debie talked about how Seal Beach is a different place than it used to be. I have never known it as anything other than the way it is so it was interesting to find out that it used to be different.

4. How would you relate this to Freire's ideas regarding dialogue? For example, you went in thinking one idea, your classmate had a different idea. What new idea emerged from this process?

Debbie helped me to gain knowledge that I did not have prior to this assignment. Once again I feel this project helped along the lines of student-student teaching and showed how everyone can learn from each other.

5. How has project 2-3 helped you with the readings of the textbook?

It has made the process much easier and given me the chance to read everything without having to actually sit down and read it all myself.

5b Reflection

1. Who is your classmate, what is the component category, what is the name of the choice?

I chose Chris Allen from group 1 and his post for assignment 4a. Group 1 was assigned readings from: Percival Everett, Ruben Martinez, Patt Morrison, and Carolyn See

2. What is something this classmate said about the choice that relates to any of the assignments in projects 2-3?

What this student said reminded me of our discusions on culture and diversity. Some of the stories he reflected on were based on experiances held by people of different race and religion.

3. What is something different this classmate said about their choice that you did not realize before when you completed projects 2-3?

In one of his reflections he talked about how regions of California are very close yet very different socially and culturally. I personally have never really thought about it but now that I do I totally agree.

4. How would you relate this to Freire's ideas regarding dialogue? For example, you went in thinking one idea, your classmate had a different idea. What new idea emerged from this process?

Chris helped me to learn a few new things showing me that students can teach students. Freire focussed on everyone learning from each other and I think this is a great example of that.

5. How has project 2-3 helped you with the readings of the textbook?

It has condensed all of the information and helped me to pick up on some of the reading I didn't have a chance to do in a shorter time span.
